With fresh apples and frozen berries, you can enjoy this colourful dessert any time of the year. It’s finished with an irresistibly crunchy brown sugar and oat topping.

Ingredients

Topping

1 cup 250 mL Robin Hood® Oats
3/4 cup 175 mL Robin Hood Original All Purpose Flour
1/2 cup 125 mL packed brown sugar
1/3 cup 75 mL Crisco® All Vegetable Shortening, melted

Filling

6 cups 1.5 L frozen mixed berries
2 apples, peeled, cored and diced
1/4 cup 50 mL packed brown sugar
2 tbsp 30 mL Robin Hood Original All Purpose Flour
1/2 tsp 2 mL cinnamon

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Topping: Combine oats, flour and sugar in medium bowl. Mix in melted shortening, stirring with a fork until well moistened and clumpy; set aside.
  3. Filling: Combine together all ingredients in an 8” (2 L) square baking dish. Cover with topping.
  4. Bake in centre of preheated oven for 45 to 55 minutes or until fruit is tender and bubbling, and topping is golden.

Tips

  • For variety, substitute any fruit or add your favourite chopped nuts to the topping. You will need a total of 6 cups (1.5 L) of fruit.
