Orange and Date Muffins

Dates and orange combine to make these yummy muffin masterpieces.


1 1/2 cups 375 mL Robin Hood® Original All Purpose Flour
3/4 cup 175 mL packed brown sugar
1 tsp 5 mL baking powder
1 tsp 5 mL baking soda
1/4 tsp 1 mL salt
1 egg
1 cup 250 mL orange juice
1/4 cup 50 mL Crisco® Vegetable or Canola Oil
3/4 cup 175 mL chopped dates
1/2 tsp 2 mL grated orange zest


  1. Preheat oven to 375ºF (190ºC). Grease or line muffin pan with paper liners.
  2. Combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Beat egg, juice, oil, dates and zest together in a separate large bowl, until blended. Stir into flour mixture, stirring until blended. Spoon into prepared muffin cups, filling each cup 2/3 full.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center of muffin comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes then remove from pan.


  • Omit orange zest for a less intense flavour.
