These cute and yummy cookies are sure to have your kids crawling with excitement. Decorate them together for a custom collection they can call their own.

Ingredients

Cookies

½ cup 125mL butter, softened
¼ cup 50mL granulated sugar
1 egg
½ cup 125mL Eagle Brand® Regular or Low Fat Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 tsp 5mL vanilla extract
2 ¼ cups 550mL Robin Hood® Original All Purpose Flour
¼ tsp 1mL baking powder

Glaze

3 cups 750mL icing sugar
4-6 tbsp 60 to 90mL water
Food colouring

Optional Decorative Toppings

Coloured sugars
Sprinkles
Small coloured candy dots
Gum Drops
Piping Gel

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cookies: Cream butter and sugar in large mixing bowl until well combined and pale in colour. Add egg, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla and mix until smooth and without streaks. Mix in remaining dry ingredients.
  3. Divide dough into 4 pieces. On a lightly floured surface roll each piece to a ¼”(5mm) thickness. Cut out desired shapes with cookie cutters and place on prepared baking sheets. Gather up scraps and repeat with remaining dough.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until beginning to colour. Cool on wire racks.
  5. Glaze: Combine icing sugar with water. Brush a thin coat of glaze over cookie bugs. Allow to dry slightly. Divide remaining glaze into small containers. If you run out, just make a bit more. Add different food colours to each container. Using a small paint brush, paint each cookie any way you like it. Small squeeze bottles of glaze work well.

Tips

  • Decorating Ideas:
  • Sprinkle on decorations such as coloured sugar or sprinkles while glaze is still wet. For butterfly, use a squeeze bottle and pipe glaze around cookie edge. Then pipe web design. Do not allow to dry. Turn cookie carefully over into a shallow dish of coloured sugar and reverse. Place a small spot of glaze on cookie and stick on a candy dot. Allow to dry. For bumblebee, pipe yellow glaze on body and black on bee’s wings. Arrange bands of black sugar on body of bee in a striped pattern. Sprinkle sugar on wings. Add 2 drops of yellow glaze for the eyes. Let dry. For dragonfly, glaze and dip carefully into coloured sugar. Finish with candy dots. Reverse and let dry.
