All in One Bowl Double Chocolate Chip Cake

Not only is this recipe bursting with chocolate, it couldn’t be easier to make together. Your kids will love every bite, and you’ll love how easy it is to clean up.

Ingredients

Cake

1 cup 250 mL granulated sugar
1/4 cup 50 mL Crisco® All Vegetable Shortening
1 egg
1 tsp 5 mL vanilla extract
1/2 cup 125 mL plain yogurt or buttermilk
1 1/2 cups 375 mL Robin Hood® Original All Purpose Flour
1/3 cup 75 mL unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tsp 10 mL baking powder
1 tsp 5 mL baking soda
1/2 cup 125 mL hot water
1 cup 250 mL chocolate chips (semi-sweet, milk chocolate or white chocolate chips)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 9” (23 cm) cake pan.
  2. Cake: Place all ingredients (except chocolate chips) in food processor. Process until batter is smooth. Stir in chocolate chips.
  3. Tip

    Save the best for last! Get your kids to add the chocolate chips after processing the batter so they don’t get broken up while mixing everything together.

  4. Spoon into prepared pan.
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Cool.
  6. Garnish: Sprinkle with icing sugar before serving.
  7. Tip

    Get creative with your kids and have them cut out fun shapes from parchment paper. Once your cake is baked and cooled, use the designs as stencils and sift icing sugar through the shapes to create unique patterns.

Tips

  • You can also make this cake with an electric mixer or whisk by hand. Follow the same directions as above.
