Magic Chocolate Toffee Bars

With toffee, chocolate chips, almonds and coconut, the taste of these bars can only be described as magic. Make them with your kids for the ultimate snack.

Ingredients

1 ½ cups 375 mL semi-sweet chocolate chips
¾ cup 175 mL flaked coconut
¾ cup 175 mL toffee bits
½ cup 125 mL sliced almonds
1 ½ cups 375 mL Robin Hood® Original All Purpose Flour
⅓ cup 75 mL granulated sugar
¾ cup 175 mL butter
1 can 300 mL Eagle Brand® Regular or Low Fat Sweetened Condensed Milk
Extra semi- sweet chocolate chips for drizzle

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 13" x 9" (33 cm x 23 cm) cake pan and line with parchment paper overlapping two sides for easy removal.
  2. Combine, chocolate chips, coconut, toffee bits and almonds in a large bowl. Set aside.
  3. Tip

    Being prepared is key, so read through the entire recipe together before getting started. Then have your kids check the pantry, find the ingredients and measure them out.

  4. Combine, in a separate bowl, flour and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly using a pastry blender or two knives. Press firmly into prepared pan.
  5. Tip

    Once all of the ingredients are combined, your kids can press the mixture into the pan. Make sure they press it down evenly to ensure all of the bars are the same thickness when baked.

  6. Bake in preheated oven for 12 minutes, or until light golden
  7. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over crust. Sprinkle with chocolate chip mixture. Press down firmly.
  8. Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool; cut into bars.
  9. Tip

    Once the bars are cooled and cut, melt ½ cup (125 mL) of extra semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let your kids carefully use a spoon to drizzle the chocolate on top of the bars to add a magical touch of their own.
